60 Years of Quality Nursing Home Care

May 18, 2026

Bay Bluffs–Emmet County Medical Care Facility is proud to mark its 60th anniversary this year. The milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on six decades of service while recognizing the people and partnerships that continue to shape care for the community.

For 60 years, Bay Bluffs has provided high-quality, compassionate care for those who call it home. What began as a commitment to meeting essential needs has grown into a comprehensive approach centered on dignity, connection and a true sense of belonging.

Consistently recognized among the top Michigan and national nursing homes by CMS, Newsweek and US News & World Report, Bay Bluffs offers a full continuum of services including long-term nursing home care, short-term rehabilitation, memory care and end-of-life services. These offerings continue to evolve alongside advancements in healthcare and community needs.

“At the heart of Bay Bluffs are the people,” shares Administrator Lisa Ashley. “It’s about those who show up each day with dedication and heart — the nurses, aides, therapists, dietary staff, housekeepers, administrative team and so many others whose work often happens quietly but leaves a lasting impact.”

Ashley noted that staff was recently recognized during National Long-term Care Week for their role in making Bay Bluffs a trusted and compassionate place for care.
Reaching 60 years is a milestone made possible through the support of residents, families and the broader community. Generations of individuals have contributed to the organization’s success through advocacy, partnership and trust.

“As we look ahead, our focus remains on continuing to meet the evolving needs of our community,” Ashley says. “The addition of Hiland Suites is a perfect example of our growth mindset. A collaborative effort and a passionate community made this end-of-life neighborhood possible.”

Ongoing efforts such as the Raise the Garden initiative further reflect that commitment. Expanding access to outdoor spaces supports both physical and emotional well-being by encouraging movement, reducing stress and isolation and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement, particularly for older adults and those living with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

“As we celebrate 60 years of care, we do so with gratitude for the past and a renewed focus on the future,” Ashley concludes.
