We’re hanging in there! Our trusty “old gal” generator is still chugging along, and for that, we are beyond grateful.
We’ve sent nursing staff to assist at the Shay Elementary warming shelter, where many of our elders need the kind of supportive care beyond what volunteers are equipped to provide. Meanwhile, our team is keeping their spirits up as best they can.
We’ve sustained some minor roof damage from fallen trees, but thankfully, nothing more significant at this time. Of course, our residents will tell you that life without television is practically unlivable—but we’re doing our best to prove them wrong! Arts and crafts, bingo, puzzles, games, and some incredible musical entertainment from Charlie Reager (and a new friend, Marcus) are helping to brighten our days. Because in the end, television isn’t everything. People—and their love for one another—are EVERYTHING.
Many have asked how they can help. As a fundraiser by trade, asking for help isn’t something I do lightly. But these are unprecedented times, and our team could use a hand.
Our wish list includes:
- Staff meals – any lunchmeat, cheese and bread
- Staff beverages – soda, Gatorade, bottled waters
- Warm fleece blankets for residents
- One resident has asked for a Mountain Dew 😊
We have several employees whose homes have been severely damaged by the storm—trees crashing through roofs, cars crushed under fallen limbs, and more. During this emergency, we are housing as many staff members as possible.
While we’re often called “healthcare heroes,” our team is made up of everyday people—just like the rest of our community—who now face the difficult task of rebuilding. To help support them, the Bay Bluffs Foundation – Areas of Greatest Need Fund (https://baybluffs.org/about/bay-bluffs-foundation/) is accepting donations to provide small stipends for those in need. Contributions can be made online or delivered directly to the facility.
We are strong. We are hopeful. We are still in shock. But most of all, we are standing together—doing everything we can for our residents, our team, and our community.
Emmet County should be PROUD of the incredible people holding the line at Emmet County Medical Care Facility.
We are Bay Bluffs!
With deepest gratitude,
Lisa Ashley, Administrator
