PRESS RELEASE from FRIENDS OF HILAND COTTAGE
Emmet County, MI – August, 2024 — The Friends of Hiland Cottage community group has announced a significant update to our organization. With the recent closure of Hiland Cottage, leadership decided to adopt a new name that better reflects the mission: Friends of Hospice of Little Traverse Bay.
Name Change to Better Reflects Group Mission
“Our mission remains steadfast: to support hospice care in Emmet County, with a focus on facility-based inpatient care,” shares Dave McBride, Friends visionary for the group and Petoskey resident.
Recent Grant Award
“We are thrilled to share that Friends of Hospice of Little Traverse Bay has awarded its first grant to Bay Bluffs – Emmet County Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs,” McBride adds. This grant will fund the establishment of the first three end-of-life Hiland Suites at the facility. “We are so excited to open this new chapter in end-of-life care for our community,” expresses Lisa Ashley, Bay Bluffs Administrator.
All donations and distributions will continue to be managed through the Little Traverse Bay Hospice Fund at the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation (phsacf.org).
Partnership with Bay Bluffs
Bay Bluffs, an award-winning care facility owned by Emmet County, has partnered with us to continue our mission of compassionate care. “We are all saddened by the loss of Hiland Cottage but are excited to start this new hospice care journey at Bay Bluffs,” explains McBride. “Our mission has not changed, just the vehicle where we provide our compassionate care.”
